GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Much has happened over the past 10 years such as the economic crisis, regional autonomy, post-crisis handling, industry change and so on. The economic crisis and post-crisis handling affect the changes of national and regional economic structures, both on business scale, business and business ownership. Regional autonomy

Regional policies in regional autonomy will greatly affect economic growth incentives in each region. Growth and changes in economic business activities at various scales: micro, small, medium and large enterprises, need to be carefully considered for planning and evaluation of development outcomes. Likewise business maps, databases and directories business / company complete, detailed and up to date is needed to describe the potential and development of economic activities in every district / city throughout Indonesia. In conducting an economic survey, a complete, accurate, reliable and up-to-date business / enterprise population is required to obtain a sample frame. Without this population, it is too expensive to spend on research and economic planning. ECONOMIC CENSUS 2006 (SE06) Referring to Law Number 16 Year 1997 on Statistics and Government Regulation Number 51 Year 1999 on the Implementation of Statistics, BPS is mandated to conduct the Economic Census once in ten years in each year ending 6 (six). Indonesia had conducted the last Economic Census in 1996 (10 years ago), while compared to Japan, they did it twice in every five years. The 1996 Economic Census will be a benchmark against the current state of the economy.
The 2006 Economic Census (SE06) to be held by BPS is now the fourth Economic Census. A number of questions used will be able to answer the various phenomena changes as described above. This information will be useful as a performance evaluation and for future development planning. Hence the Census
The economy of 2006 is absolutely necessary to be succeeded by the Government and society. The 2006 Economic Census will present basic data on economic activity in Indonesia that includes the number, business characteristics of all business scales engaged in the economic sector. Similarly, problems and barriers in all sectors, across all business scales and in all regions to the smallest areas of the village.
BENEFITS OF SE06
The benefits of SE06 for the Business World are as a basis for business development planning, market share, market potential, number of similar businesses, and business scale. For the Government as the basis of economic planning, know the economic potential, map of business spread of each business sector, employment absorption, and value added (value added). For the community, the benefits of SE06 are the basis for research and assessment of the nation's economic performance and its development.
WHEN WILL BE OPEN
The 2006 Economic Census preparation activity started in 2004 by conducting trials. In May � June 2006 will be data collection business / company simultaneously throughout the territory of the Republic of Indonesia. While data collection company / business in detail will be done in 2007. For this activity involved as many as 243 000 field officers (almost a quarter million people), among which the largest is from the community. To the enumerators, before going into the field, they will be trained for 2-3 days about the concept and definition in order to have the same language understanding. Learning how to fill out, coding the business classification, determining the work area not to overlap or may not be covered.
COVERAGE SE06
This activity covers all sectors (except agriculture already enumerated in the Agricultural Census 2003). The sectors covered are: Mining and Quarrying; Processing industry; Electricity, Gas and Water; Construction; Trade, Hotels and Restaurants; Transport, communication and Warehousing; Finance, Leasing and Corporate Services; Social Services,
Entertainment and Individuals. This work is large-scale, involving the wider community, involves many enumerators, many stages to be taken and a very wide coverage throughout the territory of Indonesia. It takes close cooperation from all parties: Local Government, Association, Entrepreneur, Worker, Enumerator, and Implementer to make this great work good and successful. This activity is not just for BPS, but it is the duty of the state that we must embrace together in accordance with their respective roles.
