National Statistics Day 2017, Working With Data

National Statistics Day 2017, Working With Data

September 27, 2017 | Other Activities

Today, September 26, 2017, is nationally commemorated as National Statistics Day (HSN) 2017. HSN 2017 takes the theme of "Collaboration with Data". This theme is a call for all elements of the nation to work together, build Indonesia, with reference to statistics as its foundation.

Judging from the past, the establishment of HSN began with the promulgation of Law No. 7 of 1960 on Statistics as a substitute for Statistiek Ordonnantie 1934 on 26 September 1960 as an effort to fulfill the need for the preparation of the Planning Development Plan. The law details the organization of statistics and organization of the Central Bureau of Statistics.

Furthermore, the President of the Republic of Indonesia in August 1996 stipulated the date of the enactment of Law No. 7 of 1960 on the Statistics as "National Statistics Day". The reason, that the birth of the Act is the starting point of the BPS trip in filling independence in the field of statistics that had been arranged based on the colonial legislation system. Subsequently, the Government of Indonesia enacted Law Number 16 Year 1997 on Statistics, in lieu of Laws No. 6 and 7 of 1960.

In this HS7 2017 anniversary, the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) as a provider of statistical data in Indonesia today held a rally of HSN 2017 simultaneously throughout Indonesia. After the 2017 HSN anniversary app, which was held on the front page of BPS Building this morning, BPS held a 2017 National Seminar titled "Designing the Future Format of Statistics Data Collection with the Utilization of Information Technology". The seminar presents speakers from various circles, namely Moh. Ari Nugraha (Deputy Head of Statistical Methodology and Statistical Information BPS), Franciscus Welirang (Director of PT Indofood Sukses Makmur, Tbk), Henri Subiakto (Expert Staff of Minister of Communication and Information Technology), and Suyoto (Bupati Bojonegoro). The event moderated by Yohana Margaretha from Metro TV was attended by representatives of ministries / institutions, academics, associations / entrepreneurs, and mass media.

Along with the increasing confidence of data users, BPS faces many challenges, namely increasing the variety and quality of data that must be provided, technological developments, and the demands of stakeholders to obtain quality and accessible data.

In his opening speech HSN 2017 seminar, Head of BPS, Kecuk Suhariyanto said "Data BPS is not able to please all parties. The CPM presents data to indicate the actual conditions. If the data released by BPS is not in line with expectations, then it should be a warning to immediately make improvements for the purpose of development can be achieved. "

To address these challenges, BPS has done the following: adding new variables to the National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas), conducting new surveys such as the Water Quality Survey (to present achievement indicators of 6 SGDs), the National Women's Life Experience Survey indicators of achievement of goal 5 SDGs), Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) implementation trials in various surveys, as well as Big Data utilization whose implementation has begun on mobile positioning data, commuter, and consumer perception trials. BPS also continues to push forward the progress of sectoral statistics, as BPS recognizes that a solid National Statistical System needs the support of all parties.

Happy National Statistics Day 2017. Hopefully with the spirit of HSN 2017, public awareness of the importance of statistical data is increasingly awakened. Let's work together with the data.
